Well, if you don’t believe me consider this. Today Sylvan’s own Lakeview Optimist club held TWO fundraisers to raise money for the new skatepark project. First, they sold out the Silver Lake Cinema for a showing of “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”, then they had four or five trucks loaded with volunteers canvassing town collecting bottles in a post-new years bottle drive. While the final results won’t be known for a week or so, the morning at the movies looks to have raised about $800 and while the value of the dozen or so large bags (4’ cubes) of bottles and cans is impossible to estimate, the bottle drive looks to have raised a fair chunk of change too. The Sylvan Lake Skateboard Association thanks the Lakeview Optimist Club, the Silver Lake Cinema, Incline Industries, and all of the volunteers who helped with these events. What an awesome way to start the new year for Sylvan skaters and BMX’ers!
More fundraising events are planned as we are a log way from our goal of $50 000. Community support for the skatepark is a critical factor to getting it built so Sylvan skaters, BMX’ers, their families and supporters are all needed to help make it happen. See you at the next event!!

Fundraising Bottle Drive to benefit Sylvan’s new skatepark
It’s going to take a lot of money to build a new skatepark in Sylvan Lake, and Sylvan’s skaters need to show their support for the park by helping to raise money for the park. By helping with fundraising efforts skaters will contribute money towards the cost of the skatepark, and their efforts will also prove to Town Council and provincial officials how much they support a new skatepark in Sylvan. The support of these officials will be essential if the skatepark is to be a reality so the skaters’ help with fundraising is CRITICAL!
Sylvan Lake’s Lakeview Optimist Club has taken the lead in spearheading fundraising efforts for the skatepark. They are starting the new year with two January fundraising events:
- Morning at the Movies: “Alvin & The Chipmunks 2”, Saturday January 9th, 10AM – Silver Lake Cinema. Tickets: $5 each, phone Carla at 403 352 -1638 to purchase
- Bottle Drive: Saturday January 9th, 10AM – Noon
Skaters who want a new skatepark need to do three things to show their support:
At the bottle drive two volunteer skaters will team up with a volunteer from the Lakeview Optimist driver who will take them to a specified area to go door-to-door collecting bottles. Teams will take what they have collected to the bottle depot about noon where bottles will be sorted and money collected by the Optimist Club.
If you can help with the bottle drive, or if you or your parents have questions, please contact the Sylvan Lake Skateboard Association by email, or by calling or texting 403-650-6909 by January 4th.
